Marachiei
An organic mountain farm in the heart of Valle Leventina, Ticino
An Organic Heart in the Leventina Highlands
Marachiei is more than just a farm — it's a 38-hectare sanctuary in the heart of Ticino, stretching from 1,100 m to the 2,100 m peaks of our alpine pastures. With over 50% dedicated to ecological preservation, we live in harmony with nature. Here, 120 goats provide the milk for our artisanal cheeses, and 10 horses wait to take you on a journey through the mountains. Every summer, we follow the ancient tradition of the transhumance, moving our herd to Alpe Pian Cavallo for high-altitude cheesemaking under the open sky.
From a Father's Dream to a Family's Legacy
It all began twenty years ago in the village of Osco, when my father started his adventure with just a few goats and a big vision. Back then, home was two old barns in the centre of town. In 2002, the dream of Marachiei took shape, and by 2004 our new home became a reality: a modern, animal-friendly free-stall barn designed for the well-being of our herd.
My father, a true traditionalist, kept milking by hand until 2017 — teaching us that while machines help, the soul of the work stays in the hands. In 2015, Mattia and I took the reins. Today, we balance farm life with our three young children: I lead the equestrian treks and the office, while Mattia manages the hay, the wood, and the land. My father is still here, his wisdom guiding us every day as we mentor the next generation of apprentices in the art of mountain farming.
